I agree. More men would discuss books if they had places to do it.
A few years ago, I was an active member of a Horror book Facebook group. A lot of men participated in that group (men comprised at least half the membership), and by participated, I mean not just discussion and sharing favorite reads, but posting photos of their latest book hauls and engaging in themed book exchanges. It was a wonderful group for men *and* women.
But I think also of the involved book-related discussions I've had with my son and other men. My son in particular because I see him often, he's an avid reader/listener, and we have a long, shared history of book discussions, beginning when he was a child. He doesn't have many people to discuss books with. He's just not around heavy readers.
Men will discuss books if they find a fellow enthusiast or a welcoming forum. The problem lies in the finding.
One only had to experience the Baen Bar back in the day to see a place where men enthusiastically discussed and recommended books. It was a wonderful place.

Yeah - I think it’s the lack of anywhere to chat, socially, which is a real barrier for guys. When those spaces exist, they like to talk!
